The SMANR method

Restore native forest on your campus

Student-Managed Assisted Natural Regeneration. Clear the invasive, protect what the land is already trying to grow, add water and habitat — then let the forest do most of the work. It is faster, cheaper and far more durable than planting alone.

STEP 01

Survey

Map the land: existing trees, soil, water flow, invasives and the native seedlings already coming up under them.

STEP 02

Clear the invasive

Remove Prosopis juliflora and other invaders that drink the groundwater and shade out native regrowth.

STEP 03

Protect the regrowth

Fence, mulch and tend what regenerates naturally. Enrich with nursery-raised natives only where gaps remain.

The missions are what students do. This is what the institution commits to — grouped so that a chemistry department, a hostel warden, an accounts officer and a first-year class can each find the row that belongs to them. Nothing here needs a new budget line to begin.

Ordered by dependency, not ambition. Year 1 buys the baseline data everything later is measured against; Year 3 is only reachable if Year 1 was recorded honestly.

Preparing your campus

How your institution joins the Wall

Five steps, and the first three cost almost nothing. Start them in any order — but do not skip the count.

Count what you have

Run the 25-point audit above and a tree census. A baseline nobody can argue with is the single most valuable thing you will produce this year.

Name the owners

Give every class one green responsibility and form your Green Ambassador teams. A practice with no named owner is not a practice.

Pick your patch

Choose the campus land to regenerate. Clear invasives, protect native regrowth, add water — the SMANR method above.

Tag and track

Register every tree on my-tree.in with QR/NFC. Report survival, not planting counts.

Publish and connect

Put your numbers where students, parents and NAAC peer teams can see them, then help a neighbouring institution start.
